August 2007 Complete Restoration Project

Ed has a Doors By Decora door and side lights that are about 17 years old and has been touched up and re finished several times. The good thing is that this door is solid mahogany and was a very well built door when it was new. The only real problem with the door itself is the bottom panels have split and been glued back together and split again. This door alone without glass or finished is now selling for over $2000. So finished and hung this door would be $2600 Not including any glass. Ed also has another problem, he has some broken glass in his panel. So we decided to get two new panels for the bottom of the door cut out and replace the old panels completely strip down the door and side lights and finish like new. We had his glass panel repaired for him.

Dan and Claudia wanted their doors to match the Ebony floors in their home so we fixed them up.

Darrell has a door that was about 17 years old and it was a solid Mahogany door with  with a glass panel that had been repaired many times over the years. The door was in bad shape and the glass panel had so many (in door repairs) that the panel just about fell apart in your hands when it was taken out. The glass panel was beyond repair, so we did him a new panel that duplicated the old one. He also had severe jamb rot on both sides of the door and these needed replaced. The sidelights were "Direct Set" meaning the side lights were not in a sash and were simply glued into the jamb.

Here is what his door did look like!

Door Jamb Rot

So we started the repairs and the first order of business was to get that door back in shape. Now this picture was after a long week of restoration and pinning the bottom back together. Yes this is the same door that was pictured above!!

This is still a work in progress. We have the new panel ready and as we removed the highly glued in sidelights and had a few cracks we have them repaired now and have replaced both jambs on each side of the door. The door is back on his home with tempered glass installed along with a new lock set. So the completed finished project is going to be completed this week 12/20/06 and the rest of the great restoration will be highlighted here in a few days. We do not do the glass work we have an excellent Art Glass company doing the Glass work for us Prestige Glassworks at http://www.glassbyprestige.com We also do all the door finishing for Prestige Glassworks.

We now have Darrell's door and sidelights all back together. Just remember what the above before pictures looked like!

Also here is a close up of the new art glass panel

So this is another completed project that turned out just great!

Dale had a12 year old door that had lots of weather abuse. Bottom panel had separated and was coming apart. The window trim around the oval was cracked and bottom pieces were falling out. But this door would be cost well over $1500 to replace with a new door. We can put your door back together!!

Started out by stripping and sanding door down completely. Repairing trim pieces and filling holes and gouges.

Then clamping with large clamps the door bottom was forced back together tight and then 2, 1/2" hardwood dowels were sunk 12" deep into the door bottom on each side to secure the loosened door back together.

Then a new coat of Red Mahoney Stain and 5 coats of UV Helsman Spar Urethane was put on the door to make it very close to New Original Condition.

For about 1/3 rd the cost of a new Door!

Also notice the large art glass window above the door. This was a very nice window done by Vintage Glassworks in Marietta. We helped install this large window and was the reason we noticed just how bad Darrell's door was.

If your door has gotten to looking bad and falling apart like the one below just give us a call.

Ron had a door and two sidelights that were not in too bad of condition except the large panel in the door had warped. So we did the panel replacement and re finished both the door and sidelights.

Inside View

We just finished our latest project on 01/17/07

Bill had a door that was without any over hang or porch and had been receiving the full brunt of the weather for several years.

The weather had really worked over the bottom fourth of the door. Allowing water to get in at the bottom trim and soak down into the sections where the door was actually held together.

A closer look at the damage.

After a few days of attention from us, his old door was as god as new.

Butch got his old doors re finished and they came out just grand.
